Before the incorporation of Ponce Inlet the area was known as
Mosquito Inlet then later "Ponce Park". It's fire coverage was provided by Port Orange which was at the time the closest
major fire department. Prior to 1969 coverage was tied to the water bill,if you got water you could subscribe for fire
protection for one dollar extra per month. The extra dollar could have saved the owner of "Thacker Estates" his apartment
building,it burnt to the ground in the 1960's. He refused water or fire service.

Port Orange raised their fee from $229 per month to $2800 per
month so in the mid 1970's a mini-pumper was acquired. In July 1978 the Ponce Inlet Volunteers drafted their constitution
and by-laws. They threw "Fish Fry" dinners to raise money to help equip themselves. They also built a rescue truck, they had
quite an active group! The first paid Fireman was hired around 1995.
